The heart of Awatea Athletics is you!
We are a volunteer run and lead sports club, focused on helping our athletics community grow and thrive. We believe the best way to achieve this is within a community of like-minded people.
Below you’ll learn about all the awesome programs we offer, behind them is an epic team of parent & community volunteers.
Joining our club isn’t just about athletics, it’s about a community of people working together for a healthy, more confident future for all.
In order to offer the highest quality program we can, we have a high adult to child ratio through-out. This allows for the best delivery of our age-appropriate activities and coaching.
This means we can only accommodate a small number of families to participate that cannot also volunteer, fortunately we have roles and opportunities to be part of the team no matter your skills or experience levels.
We are committed to supporting our volunteering community to have fun, learn skills and get a-lot out of being involved through our volunteer & coach development program.

We can accommodate a small number of families who cannot support the club with a volunteer on the roster.
We do understand that volunteering isn’t always possible for some families, and don’t want any children to miss out on the opportunity to participate.
Though there may be circumstances in which if we don’t have enough volunteers for a group, it may not run.
Athletics NZ charges a slightly larger fee for athletes that intend to compete for their club at any events through-out the year to help with the administration of these events. If you don’t want to compete at interclubs, then you can choose the non-competitive membership.
Yes, we believe that ‘Balance is Better’ and athletics is a sport that can support your achievements in other sports.
Each of these sporting bodies charges a fee for all athletes to participate at a club level, these fee’s go directly to them upon registration. Awatea Athletics only charges $25 on-top of these fees.
Each club is required to run one or more events at a Saturday Interclub, so all families who participate must supply a volunteer on a roster every 2-3 weeks. The roles range from Event Chief, through to recording, measuring and marshalling.
Children should wear comfortable running shoes at club nights. Running spikes can be worn after age 10 and above at club nights when needed and at Saturday Interclubs. Light ‘rubber’ spikes are available for younger athletes for track running. Athletes must wear plain black shorts for competition.
We offer coaching in a range of evens for athletes over 15yrs, enquire to find out if one of our senior coaching options suits you. For athletes over 18yrs, please enquire about coaching and we will support you to find the right option for you from our coaches or outside of the club if that’s the best fit.
Yes, due to high demand, these training options are only available for Awatea Club Members.
